About Daventry Appraisals

Tracy Dopko, BA, DipEqS, ISA CAPP
Appraiser & Animal Expert Witness

Tracy Dopko - Daventry Equine Appraisal Services client Recognized as one of the world's leading animal appraisers and expert witnesses, Tracy is a credentialed agricultural, livestock, farm equipment, and equine appraiser. She is a Senior Member of the American Society of Agricultural Appraisers (ASAA), a Certified Member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA), an Accredited Senior Appraiser with the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), and a private investigator specializing in equine and livestock matters. Tracy also serves as Chair of the Personal Property Resource Panel for The Appraisal Foundation, the congressionally authorized organization responsible for establishing appraisal standards and appraiser qualifications in the United States. Her leadership role reflects her commitment to advancing professional appraisal standards and best practices throughout the industry. For more than two decades, Tracy has performed complex agricultural, livestock, equine, and farm equipment appraisals throughout North America and internationally. She is regularly retained as an independent appraiser, litigation consultant, and expert witness in high-value disputes and has been qualified as an expert in both Canadian and American courts. Her valuation and consulting expertise has contributed to the successful resolution of litigation resulting in millions of dollars in judgments and settlements for her clients.

Tracy is also a member of the International Society of Appraisers' Private Client Services program, an invitation-only network of appraisers who serve High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWIs), family offices, wealth advisors, attorneys, and other private client professionals. Fewer than five percent of ISA members are selected for this distinguished program, which has historically consisted primarily of specialists in fine art, antiques, and jewelry. Tracy is the first animal appraiser accepted into the program. Her private clients include Olympic and Grand Prix riders and owners, celebrities, high-profile investors, members of the Forbes list, and British royalty who rely on her expertise for confidential valuation, acquisition, estate, insurance, litigation, and advisory services.

Throughout her career, Tracy has appraised some of North America's most renowned Holstein, Angus, and Jersey cattle, as well as elite jumper and dressage horses in Europe through Daventry Equine Appraisal Services, the equine division of Daventry Appraisal Services. She works closely with several of the largest insurance companies in Canada and the United States on livestock mortality claims, valuation disputes, and fraud investigations. Her appraisal experience also includes multi-million-dollar estate settlements, IRS tax audits, divorce litigation, charitable donations, and valuations involving large-scale hog, poultry, dairy, and beef operations. She also serves as a livestock, game, marine, zoo, and endangered-species appraiser for the U.S. Department of Agriculture – Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA–APHIS), providing independent valuations across a broad range of species and handling specialized assignments.

Tracy Dopko - Daventry Appraisal Services Tracy is widely recognized within the appraisal profession as the go-to expert for the valuation of rare, obscure, and exotic animals. Her appraisal experience includes breeding and show dogs, breeding and show cats, animal actors for the film and television industry, as well as game, exotic, endangered, and marine species. She has been retained by private zoos, aquariums, wildlife sanctuaries, conservation organizations, non-profit foundations, and private owners throughout North America for insurance, litigation, estate, tax, acquisition, and other specialized valuation assignments. Her expertise is built upon a unique combination of appraisal knowledge and hands-on animal experience. While studying pre-veterinary medicine at the University of Alberta, Tracy volunteered at a local zoo, an opportunity that provided rare access to some of North America's leading zoological institutions and firsthand exposure to the management, valuation, and private exchange of zoological collections. Over the course of her career, Tracy has worked directly with an extraordinary range of species, including Asian and African elephants, Bactrian camels, birds of prey, capuchin monkeys, gibbons, fruit bats, harbor seals, sea lions, ring-tailed lemurs, river otters, tigers, wolves, numerous reptiles and snakes, and many other wildlife species. She also gained extensive experience hand-raising bear and cougar cubs in a zoological nursery and participated in the recovery of the endangered Swift Fox through a government conservation program. This uncommon combination of practical animal husbandry, zoological experience, and internationally recognized appraisal credentials has made Tracy one of the few appraisers qualified to provide credible, defensible valuations across virtually every category of domestic, agricultural, and exotic animal.

Tracy Dopko - Daventry Appraisal Services As co-owner of Daventry Equestrian with her husband, Tracy has been actively involved in the equine industry for more than three decades. She successfully competed on the Canadian and American hunter/jumper circuits, as well as in dressage, for over 25 years. An accomplished judge, breeder, and trainer, Tracy has earned numerous Canadian and U.S. National Championships and titles in the show hunter, western pleasure, and trail disciplines. Her extensive hands-on experience as an owner, competitor, breeder, trainer, and judge provides a level of practical industry knowledge that few equine appraisers possess. This firsthand expertise enables her to understand the many factors that influence the value of performance horses, breeding stock, and equine-related assets across a wide range of disciplines and markets.

Tracy also owns and operates a successful equine breeding program, standing multiple stallions and managing an advanced shipped-semen program with consistently high first-cycle conception rates. She personally oversees all aspects of her breeding operation, including semen collection and cryopreservation of resident stallions, reproductive examinations, ultrasound, and embryo transfer procedures on her own mares. To further enhance her expertise, Tracy has completed advanced training in equine reproduction, embryo transfer, reproductive ultrasound, and frozen semen management under some of North America's most respected equine reproduction specialists.

In 2017, Tracy graduated with distinction from the University of Guelph, earning a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Criminal Justice and Public Policy, along with an Equine Studies Diploma, also with distinction. She later earned an Equine Welfare Certificate with distinction from the University of Guelph. For nearly a decade, Tracy served as a full-time instructor in the University of Guelph's Equine Studies Diploma and Equine Business Management programs, where she taught the next generation of equine professionals. She also serves the Government of Alberta as a production tester for the Green Certificate Program, evaluating and mentoring students in equine, dairy, cow-calf, swine, and sheep production. Tracy's combination of advanced reproductive expertise, university-level teaching experience, academic achievement, and practical knowledge of livestock production provides clients with an exceptional depth of technical expertise that few agricultural and equine appraisers can match.

To further strengthen her expert witness qualifications, Tracy recently earned both the Civil Expert Witness Certificate and the Criminal Expert Witness Certificate from the prestigious Cardiff University School of Law in the United Kingdom. The programs included intensive instruction in expert witness methodology, courtroom procedure, report writing, cross-examination, and expert witness strategy, along with multiple mock trial appearances and the preparation of expert witness reports for formal evaluation. Combined with more than two decades of agricultural appraisal experience and extensive hands-on expertise in the livestock, equine, and agricultural industries, Tracy brings exceptional credibility to the courtroom. Her ability to communicate complex valuation issues in a clear, objective, and defensible manner makes her a trusted resource for attorneys, insurers, corporations, and government agencies involved in high-value agricultural and animal-related litigation.
